Maggie the Monkey

Maggie just turned into a monkey seemingly overnight. It started when she figured out how to climb onto a chair. It was cute to watch her sit in an adult chair and act all grown-up...such as this time when I caught her sitting in front of the computer.

But her newfound talent couldn't stop there. Next she tried to climb from a chair to the kitchen table. I'm sure she would have tried swinging from the light fixture if I would have let her make it onto the table. Instead she was placed back on ground level and all chairs were quickly removed from around the table.

Next she found the chair by my sewing desk. So she proceeded to climb onto it and try to push all the buttons and knobs on my sewing machine. The few extra inches the chairs lent her allowed her to reach into drawers which were previously unattainable. So I made a make-shift baby gate to keep her out. And here I thought our house was child-proofed.

Next she moved to the couch, where she found it a fun game to climb to the very top and fall backwards onto the cushions below. At this point I decided I was quickly losing my sanity...and Maggie was quickly tallying up goose-eggs.

This all happened the other day. Since then she's calmed down a little, but it leaves me with just one burning question: When a child learns how to climb how do you prevent it? I've felt like I can't take my eyes off of her for a second because if I do turn my back she'll be walking on the top of the couch before I know it. And please don't tell me that she'll be climbing out of her crib next!

She has turned into quite the little dare-devil. She really goes to town on her rocking horse now. (I had to include the first video so you could see how she "leads" the music. The second video is her really going crazy on the rocking horse--and her laughing.)
She even roman rides sometimes--she wouldn't let me get the roman riding on camera though. We better watch out--the circus might come recruiting before too long :)
