I've Been Tagged...

I’m going to do this a little different. I am going to include some of my journal entries from back in the day. They are kind of funny to read. Unfortunately I don’t keep a journal as well now as I did then. I do find other ways to preserve my memories though, such as my family letters and this blog. Enjoy :-)

20 Years Ago:
  • I was almost 3 years old.
  • I was a tag-a-long to my siblings.
  • I drank water out of a baby bottle. I guess it was before sippy cups. My mom could not get me to give up my bottles. If I remember correctly she would hide them, but I would find them. Then she would find me drinking out of a bottle and get frustrated. This went on for a while; I’m not sure when I finally stopped drinking out of a bottle.
  • I loved animals!

10 Years Ago:

  • I was a Beehive in Young Women’s. I remember feeling really old.
  • Apparently this is when I first started quilting. It is an addiction I still have today. I may need to join fabricholics anonymous. I hoard fabric!
  • January 2, 1998- “Whenever I ride by a horse I get this feeling deep down inside I can’t even explain. It’s the feeling telling me how bad I want one, yet, I don’t have one. I think about how fun it would be to have one and ride it. Oh, I wish I could have one!” I wonder what I would have done if someone told me then that in ten years I would have horses of my own!
  • (March 26th) I had surgery at Primary Children’s Hospital. That was a scary day for me, but a really good one! After that my life could go on as normal.
  • July 12, 1998: “Hello, today I went to church. It was good, but Katie was disturbing during our lessons. After church I goofed around and then went to Allen’s house and played the violin along with the family and the piano. After that we played Phase 10 for a long time. It was fun and we got lots of laughs. We looked through my mom’s pictures again. It made me kind of sad. My mom’s life was pretty sad in my point of view. When she was little the neighbors lit her house on fire because [her family] had a pig farm and the pigs stunk so they burnt it down. She has this picture of the whole family and it’s burnt all around the edges. It’s a picture they saved from the fire. It made me sad because she doesn’t remember anything. She doesn’t have writing on her pictures. I look forward to learning more about my mom.”

5 Years Ago:

  • I went on the Trek and it was an amazing experience!
  • I was waiting to start my senior year of high school. I was involved in student council, and through the summer we were busy planning the school year. This is really weird to think about because high school seems like a really long time ago, and in a lot of ways I have changed since then.
  • July 9-12, 2003- “I had student council camp at Dixie State College. It was a lot of fun and there were student councils from about 20 other schools there, so I met a lot of people! It was my first time in St. George!...We came back on Saturday (the 12th).”

3 Years Ago:

  • I was between my freshman and sophomore year of college.
  • I was engaged to the best thing that ever happened to me. Jonathan was working long hours as a crop consultant for IFA in Lewiston, Utah, and I was home working at a golf course for the third or fourth year in a row. The weekends we could get off from work we took turns driving to the other’s house and visiting for the weekend. We did a lot that summer, even though we were apart for most of it.
  • On one of those trips I received my first and only speeding ticket. It came from a very relentless officer in a construction zone that was frequently having the speed limit changed. I didn’t realize it was different from when I drove it the day before. I cried almost the whole 2 ½ hours home!

So Far this Year:

  • I found out that I am expecting.
  • I graduated college. It is official now. I received my diploma in the mail a few days ago.
  • I wondered when the snow was ever going to melt!
  • Then I wondered when the heat was going to end!
  • I have enjoyed my relaxed lifestyle after graduation.
  • I have been involved in a ton of projects for our little girl.

Yesterday:

  • I picked our car up from the shop because it was having some air conditioning problems, and air conditioning is something I cannot live without right now.
  • I made a wedding cake, stressed the whole drive that it was going to get ruined, and went to my friend’s reception.
  • I came home and worked in the yard, but the lawn mower ran out of gas, so I went inside and checked my e-mail and read people’s blogs.

Today:

  • I cleaned up my huge wedding cake mess!
  • I’m updating our blog.
  • I’ll go check on our horses and help doctor Dunny and Sally. Dunny is sick and Sally has a cut on her leg. They’ll be okay though. I’ll try to get Chance used to people and I might tie a halter for him so we can start halter breaking him sometime.
  • I’ll play with Duke and Patch and hopefully get around to filling their dog run with straw so they don’t get so dusty. I might give them a bath too; we’ll see how ambitious I get.
  • I might work on more baby projects. I have a zipper for the diaper bag now, so that project is no longer on hold.
  • If Jonathan goes out to bale hay tonight then I’ll probably mow the lawn again when it’s cool. It is not the easiest job for a pregnant lady to do, but Jonathan works really long hours and is usually exhausted when he gets home.

Tomorrow:

  • I will go to church, play with the kids in nursery, come home, eat, and relax.
  • We might go on a drive to see how the huckleberries are coming along.
  • Then I might make home made bread if Jonathan is lucky.
  • Plus, I will end up baking another cake for a funeral on Monday morning.

In the Next Year:

  • I will be a stay at home mom, instead of just a stay at home wife.
  • Hopefully we’ll make it to Florida to visit family (and Seaworld) there.
  • Hopefully my mare will foal.
  • I WILL finish Jonathan’s saddle! Then I’ll start on another for a local business to sell. Hopefully that will be the start of my new do-it-from-home career. Until then I will keep making bridles, chaps, and whatever other orders we have.

I now tag Scott and Julieanne, Sam and Lori, Brick and Lisa, Jeremy and Whitney, Bob and Kim, and whoever else wants to be tagged.
