February 2015

On the night of the 3rd/morning of the 4th we had such a heavy rainfall that it washed part of our driveway out and we had a small little river running down the driveway for awhile after the rain cleared up.  The ruts that the rain made were 6 inches deep in some spots!
I went outside first to take pictures while the kids were supposed to be getting dressed. Next thing I knew, I looked up and Lane was walking out wearing one of Maggie's coats because he couldn't find his own.  For a second my brain didn't register who I was looking at because I was expecting it to be Maggie in the pink coat :)

One of the cows calved prematurely and despite our best efforts, the little thing didn't make it.  It was alive long enough for the kids to help try to get it to nurse from a bottle and to get attached to it.
One of Maggie's little friends stole a bracelet from her on the bus and wouldn't give it back. Maggie was pretty upset about it and tried and tried on her own to get it back.  She asked if I would call the girl's mom and talk to her if she couldn't get the girl to give it back on her own. I really didn't want to have to do that, but I had promised Maggie that I would if all of her efforts to talk to the girl failed.  Anyway, the girl's mom had suspected that the bracelet wasn't really given to her like she had claimed, but she also didn't know who it had come from.  She said she'd make sure that Maggie got her bracelet back. Then I worried that this situation could turn on Maggie because the girl might get mad that Maggie got her in trouble.  I didn't want the girl to get in trouble, I just wanted her to give the bracelet back since I had made it for Maggie. Maggie and I decided that the best thing to do would be to make the girl a similar friendship bracelet since she had liked Maggie's bracelet so much.  I told Maggie to give it to her friend after she gave her bracelet back to her. Maggie wrote her a cute little note to say thanks for giving it back and explaining that she had made this one special for her to keep. In the end, Maggie got her bracelet back and a friendship was saved.  I really had no idea how to approach this whole situation so I was really relieved when it all worked out. Sometimes I feel completely lost at this whole parenting thing. The only downside of his has been that now all of Maggie's friends are asking for bracelets ;)
Maggie came home with this note from her friend the day she got her bracelet back :)  Kids are cute!
 Maggie and Lane's Valentines.
You can't tell in this picture, but it was raining with the sun shining.  I love when that happens.
Maggie's Kindergarten has been celebrating Dr. Seuss.  On the 27th the kids got to come to school dressed up as a Dr. Seuss character.  Maggie went as Daisy Head Mayzie.
On the 28th, our local library had a lady from the division of natural resources come and do a class on birds of prey.  She brought a peregrine falcon and great horned owl with her. She warned all the kids not to stick their fingers out or the falcon might try to grab them and eat them.  Lane kept his fists balled up inside his shirt sleeves the rest of the time.  The falcon was also really loud and he was not a fan of it, hence why only Maggie would stand by it for a picture.  Lane did like the great horned owl though, but we didn't get a photo-op with it.
