Memory Monday: Auto Pilot

The summer after Jonathan and I were married found Jonathan farming with some brand new John Deere equipment, complete with the Greenstar AutoTrac technology--a technology that uses GPS to steer the tractor with precise accuracy so that every row is perfectly parallel to the next.  With the push of a few buttons, he was free to sit back and "relax" while he monitored to make sure everything was going smoothly.  At the end of each row he'd turn the tractor, get it lined back up, and he'd be hands free for the remainder of the row.  After about a month of doing this day in and day out things slowed down and we decided to take a weekend trip down to his parent's house.

He checked his mirror and merged effortlessly onto the highway; he's always been an alert and proficient driver.  After reaching his desired speed he pushed the "on" button to the cruise control followed by "set".  Then he took his hands off of the wheel and leaned back in his seat.  The car slowly began to drift to the right, when he returned his hands to the wheel, looked over at me and laughed, "I guess the car doesn't steer itself, does it?"
