I'm really counting my blessings today. Jonathan nearly hit some cows on the highway last night. 70 mph, plus a dark night, plus black cows would have been fatal I'm sure. He knew who the cows belonged to, so he called the guy and together they put them back where they belonged. If he would have been just a few minutes later...I don't even want to think about it.
Lane's teeth are moving slower than molasses in the dead of winter. Heaven help me if all his teeth come in this slow. This tooth has been up and down for quite some time, but for the last month it has been just under the surface about to cut through. It's just hanging out, making him fussy. You can only give pain meds and Orajel for so many days in a row...
Maggie calls Buzz Lightyear "Airplane Guy" and for some reason I think it's hilarious. The other day she took one of her stuffed horses and laid its legs out perpendicular to its body and said, "See this mom; airplane horse."
There was a noisy crow in our yard the other day and Maggie was really fascinated by it. All day long she kept saying, "hear that bird mom? CAW CAW!"
I just saw an ad for vegetarian dog food. DOGS ARE CARNIVORES! People are omnivores. Just look at our teeth; we're supposed to eat meat and plants, not one or the other. I know it's a personal choice and to each their own, but it annoys me when people try to push their agenda on everyone else, which apparently now includes their designed-to-eat-protein pets. I could never survive as a vegetarian. I enjoy a juicy steak and tender roast way too much, not to mention that raising beef is how we make a living!
Jonathan leaves for work between 5:00-6:00 am and doesn't get home until around 9:00 pm. He's the only one that knows how to A.I. so he does all the breeding and the majority of the heat detecting. He's really good at what he does; he is a bovine braniac and an equine expert. I'm used to his schedule and I know this won't be the only time he works long/odd hours, but I will admit that this year has been a lot harder on me. For one, we don't live on the ranch any more so I can't go ride along with him and help heat detect. For two, we have two kids now, one of which fights going to bed because she wants to see Daddy. For three, I got a little to used to his salesman hours. Needless to say, I am looking forward to the end of breeding season when I can have my husband back. My parents and sister are coming to visit this weekend, so that will be a welcome distraction. Hopefully the weather will be nice.
I guess I should go eat breakfast now. I was just sitting here typing with Lane, who woke up at five and refused to go back to sleep, but now my stomach is growling and I think Lane's ready to go back to sleep.
