You know when you get the giggles so bad during family prayer? When you feel awful and terribly disrespectful for laughing during a prayer, but you just can't contain yourself? That happened to us the other night. In retrospect it doesn't really seem that funny, but it took some time to gain our composure. Here's what happened: Maggie's had a rash that wasn't improving at all. The doctor assumed it was just viral and wasn't too concerned since she wasn't having fever or anything along with it. It was pretty ugly though and it had us somewhat concerned. During the prayer Jonathan said something along the lines of, "please bless Maggie that her rash may heal." Then right after he said that, Maggie piped up and said, "Uh-huh!" We lost it. We felt bad for laughing of course, but it did make me realize how well she's been listening to our prayers.
Last Thursday we went and toured the new BYU-Idaho Center and part of the Manwaring Center on BYU-Idaho's campus. That campus has changed a lot since we were students there and it felt a little weird to be back. It is one huge building! If you have ever been inside the LDS Conference Center in Salt Lake, it looks a lot like that inside the auditorium of the BYU-Idaho center; there's only a 6,000 seat difference. Here are a few stats:
(I am so glad I don't have to change all those light bulbs or clean all those toilets!)
Total Square Feet: 434,859 Total Cubic Feet: 5 million Size of Roof: 4 acres Pounds of Steel 14 million Longest Steel Truss: 258' Auditorium Seating: 15,000 Auditorium Screens: 34' x 19' Auditorium Stage: 106' wide Light Fixtures: 7,000 Toilets: 212 Total Concrete: 25,500 yards
(You can view more pictures by clicking here.)
That campus holds a lot of memories for us so it was fun to go back and visit, even if it did feel different. I told Jonathan if any of our kids ever decide to go to school there and we drop them off it is going to feel really strange!
Jonathan read the following quote in Mitch Albom's Have a Little Faith. We both really liked it, so I thought I'd share it here.
A man seeks employment on a farm. He hands his letter of recommendation to his new employer. It reads simply, `He sleeps in a storm.'
The owner is desperate for help, so he hires the man.
Several week pass, and suddenly, in the middle of the night, a powerful storm rips through the valley.
Awakened by the swirling rain and howling wind, the owner leaps out of bed. He calls for his new hired hand, but the man is sleeping soundly.
So he dashes off to the barn. He sees, to his amazement, that the animals are secure with plenty of feed. He runs out to the field. He sees the bales of wheat have been bound and are wrapped in tarpaulins. He races to the silo. The doors are latched, and the grain is dry.
And then he understands. `He sleeps in a storm.’
My friends, if we tend to the things that are important in life, if we are right with those we love and behave in line with our faith, our lives will not be cursed with the aching throb of unfulfilled business. Our words will always be sincere, our embraces will be tight. We will never wallow in the agony of `I could have, I should have.’ We can sleep in a storm.
And when it’s time, our good-byes will be complete.I've decided I'm going to try something new with this blog. My cousin did it on her blog a while ago and I thought it was a good idea. I don't know how long it will last, but it's worth a shot. She would write out a new memory every Monday and then post it to her blog. I think she called it Memory Monday. I'm explaining this now so that I'm committed :) They'll range from funny to sad, but they'll all be something that I want to have written down so I don't forget them. You can now look forward to my first Memory Monday post coming up.
